Well Met

Well Met

A strip show, a severed head, a human chandelier and so much flesh — this is officially the most extreme Met Gala ever. This year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion," was originally greeted with trepidation. Everyone wondered just how hard the A-listers would lean into the mood or whether the target would prove too hard to hit. But we needn't have worried as it didn’t disappoint those who love a bold, borderline ridiculous red-cum-pink carpet. It yielded a sense of mischief, experimentation, and, most importantly, real joy. It was hard to pick only a few standout looks from the buffet of fun, but we did our best to give you a primer.

Leave it to Lady Gaga to show up in a Russian nesting doll of a dress—four looks in one, each layered under the other, requiring a village (including designer Brandon Maxwell) to help her unveil each style.
Katy Perry wore a baffling ensemble that turned her into a functioning chandelier.

Kylie and Kendall Jenner looked stunning.

Most eye-catching: Janelle Monáe in Christian Siriano.

Gala host Harry Style’s outfit looks a bit tame by comparison, doesn’t it?

Lupita Nyong’o is a rainbow queen — literally.

Zendaya came in Cinderella cosplay complete with luminescent dress. She even lost a glass slipper on her way up the stairs.
Jared Leto, brought his own decapitated head as a date. Fun!
